What I Learned from a Little Shard of Glass

So I had this thought today... maybe you can follow my logic here.  But our lives are like little shards of glass mirrors.  We each have the potential to reflect great things.  Whole things.  But instead our lives are broken.  When darkness broke into our world, it shattered the mirror of life.  We now hold our little slivers of glass, fragments of broken potential.

But maybe as time moves on, as we seek to surrender to a faithful God, as we lay our shards before the Lord...He comes in and pieces us back together.

Shard by shard.

Day by day.

Moment by moment.

And before we know it...we can begin to see the reflections of wholeness once again.

We see the image of God in ourselves.  I don't mean we become little gods.  I mean, we reflect the very character, goodness, kindness, and love of our Creator.  We become better image-bearers.  We reflect outwardly the inward glory of God inside of us.  The mystery of Christ (Christ in us) is reflected outward.  It's put on the front page of our lives.

In the shards, in the brokenness, in the little mini-reflections...people can see the very glory of God, the mystery of Christ.  And it moves us.  Stirs us.  Compels us to wholeness.  To reflect more.  To let Him piece more shards together.  To heal us.

My own broken down, painful body is a constant reminder of my brokenness.  It's an outward reflection of my inward reality.  Until I am finally home, my journey toward perfect wholeness will not be complete.  But I look forward to the day when all the shards; the dirty, stepped on, sharp, and rusted; will be put back together perfectly, the way God intended it.

Until then...I pray the Lord uses all of my little shards to reflect His glory.  What's your prayer?  What do you long to reflect?

"This is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory."
